(…or continuation of this note)
Damn, it seems like that laptop thing is more serious than I expected - motherboard died. They’re not sure yet if they can replace it, when or how much will it cost. I had a tiny note about virtual functions there, but cannot be arsed to code samples/write it again, so it’ll have to wait.
In the meantime, other things have been cleared out, contract has been signed, so I can as well make it official. At May 11th I’ll start working at Swedish gamedev company - Starbreeze Studios. For last few years I’ve been maintaining a very short list of Companies I Would Like To Work For. Starbreeze has been at the top usually, so I’m very happy with how things turned out.
Obviously, it’s honeymoon time now, so take with grain of salt, but it all looks very promising. Cool studio, nice people, interesting projects. It’s the second time I leave Poland to work (to be more precise, it’ll be my 4th company in 3rd country, not counting part-time jobs’.), this time a little bit more complicated, because I’m taking my girlfriend with me. Starbreeze folks were kind enough to invite her too when I had my interview, so we could get the feel of the city etc. Still lots of stuff to resolve here (renting my flat, dealing with move and so on), but hopefully we’ll survive.
One of my personal reasons why I’m that excited about the whole thing is that our TD is guy who coded this:
this , and most of all - this:
(we’re talking 1995 here, guys, Quake has been released one year later).
One thing that’s bothering me is that stupid laptop, it seems like it won’t be fixed before I leave to Sweden, which means sitting there for few weeks with no computer at home (..and girlfriend is not going with me at the very beginning, she’ll join later). Bummer. Well, one the bright side, I’ll have plenty of time to study Swedish or get to know Uppsala. There’s also another Pole working there, ex-PCF graphics artist, so we can as well start Polish veteran colony in Sweden.

Good for you, man! We will have to deal with old shit for a little while…
But there’s a light in the tunnel I hope it’s not another train approaching.

@Maciej: fingers crossed for you, guys!
@Tobias: yes, I’ve seen some of it already… Seems like nice, little city, should be interesting change after 6 years in Warsaw
@Przemek: fortunately, got a bike already, intend to take it with me :)

Wow, I am jealous. Crystal Dream 2 is one of my favourite demos! ITS was amazing when it came out, too. Such a shame it didn’t go anywhere!

Welcome to Sweden! I myself also work in the industry but in Link??ping (200+ km from Uppsala). Great that there are more of us here now :)
Don’t let the cold-hearted Swedes scare you off too quickly! =)

Just read it. Good luck and all best for you over there. So now I have a tricky plan for another interview with you, maybe Darkness 2 in near future? :)
