GDC 2008 notes
24/Feb 2008
If you werent lucky enough to visit GDC this year, dont despair. There are already first notes from various sessions appearing. Make sure to visit Xemu’s (Rob Fermier’s) site, he has notes from most of the most interesting presentations up. Hopefully soon full proceedings will appear at GDC site. PS. Assassin’s Creed team numbers are crazy… 50 coders at the peak, 15-20 for AI alone. That’s more or less size of our entire team :) [Edit] More GDC goodies from Adam Martin (MMO focused). [Edit2] I’ll just add it here - Bungie’s papers, Sean Barrett’s “Sparse Virtual Textures”, Insomniac’s stuff. […] As noticed by Ed(isar) in the comments: there are some of the publications at the official site already. Gaffer (of PTC fame) put his paper online as well. So did Valve guys.

50 programmers in a team?! I don’t see the point. Presumably with so many people most of them have not much to do most of the time. Besides managing such a crowd must be real pain.

The funny thing is that sparse texturing is implemented in hardware in Wii (you can have textures split into 8x8 blocks with indexes to each block). And that’s the only good thing I can say about hardware in this console ;)
